£16 to drop in.  Various discounted class passes available

This innovative and dynamic yoga class is grounded in biomechanics, sports psychology and philosophy, and aims to enhance running and sports performance, both physically and mentally.  A typical class might include flowing standing poses to develop balanced strength and coordination, core and upper body work for improved posture, and slow, floor-based or restorative postures, sometimes with props, to maintain range of motion and release tension.  Certain Pilates exercises and techniques are sometimes incorporated.  This is yoga as mind-body conditioning and physical therapy. You’ll be encouraged to develop patience, focus and the respectful awareness of breath and body needed to safely explore and enjoy your athletic potential both on and off the mat.

£13 to drop in or £10 per class if paying for whole term.
Current term runs April 18th-July 18th 2012

This is an "old school" but creative Power Yoga class in which postures and breath are woven together in an almost continuous and challenging flow, designed to develop strength, mobility, focus and self-understanding.  This is athletic yoga in itself, rather than a restorative or recovery session, although we always take some deeper, slower postures towards the end, and open and close
the class with breathing and meditation.  The practice includes sun salutations, strong standing sequences, balances, backbends, inversions and arm balances, deep seated poses and meditation.  There is usually music.  It is suitable for those in good health, willing to explore their athletic potential in a non-aggressive, non-intimidating setting, ideally with prior experience of yoga or other mind-body practice.

Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, offering variety and balance as you spread your energy over the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. Despite involving well-rounded, less repetitive training, most tri schedules still recommend some time spent stretching and strengthening -- and this is where yoga can be as valuable a tool as those new swimming goggles or your puncture repair kit!  If the transition is the 4th discipline in Triathlon, perhaps yoga should be the 5th.

Swimming, cycling and running all present different technical, mental and physical challenges.  In this workshop we’ll look at how the mind-body-breath practice of yoga can aid the technical aspects of well-coordinated swimming, improve balance, leg strength and concentration needed on the bike and help with core posture, form, efficiency, speed and injury prevention in running.  Improved focus and learning to stay calm under pressure can even help in transition. Practicing gentle poses and meditation can also help with recovery during training and presence, patience and pacing during racing – particularly useful for those going long distance.

We’ll look at the demands of each sports separately, breaking down some postures to help with each, as well as running through comprehensive sequence of asanas and meditation to complement all three disciplines and discussing how to fit it into your training.
